Engaged: Elizabeth & Sam | Grosse Pointe, MI
Say it with me now:  Awwwwwwwww. Seriously, how cute are they?  I love this image – the colors, the birdhouse, and how snuggley Elizabeth and Sam look. Hudson River Photography Workshops Week II: Post #4: Selective Sharpening Yesterday we had a great shoot at the Chuang Yen Monastery in Kent, NY. One of the things we talked about afterward was selectively sharpening an image, that is, you usually (but not always) want to sharpen only a part of an image, rather than the entire image. The bottom image (one of my shots) needed to be sharpened globably - that is the entire image needed sharpening, because all RAW files nee...

The image on the right is the middle shot from five exposures at, over and under 0 exposure compensation. The middle shot (Photomatix only) is a more natural-looking image than th...

In other words, the opportunity is in context, not content. In October 2008, as part of my 5 Lessons series about how photographers can create new business models, I wrote about the opportunity to connect with context and

We've all done it. There's a photograph or a 100% crop of an image online, taken with a camera or lens that we're interested in, and we judge its image quality capabilities (at least in part) on the basis of that screen image. Wrong! In The Fallacy of Judging Image Quality Online I look at why, though many people do it all the time, it's really a very bad idea. ________________...
